Cheap Pizza Calzones 🍕
Ingredients:
- Pillsbury Pizza Crust (Thin Crust) – $2.64
- Note: Any frozen pizza crust will work! I’ve used other doughs for this meal before, and they worked just fine. I just grabbed thin crust because it’s what they had.
- Armour Pepperoni – $2.50
- Mozzarella Cheese – $2.38
- You can add more ingredients if you like. We’ve added ground sausage before, and it was really good!
Total Cost: $7.52 before tax
Adding butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning mix brings the total to $9.22 before tax.
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F, or follow the instructions on your dough package.
- Prepare the baking sheet:
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Spray the foil with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
- Roll out the dough:
- Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet.
- Roll it out evenly.
- Cut the dough into 4 pieces (or more/less depending on your preference).
- Add the fillings:
- Place a layer of pepperoni on each piece of dough.
- Add mozzarella cheese on top of the pepperoni.
- Continue layering pepperoni and cheese until you’re satisfied with the amount.
- Seal the calzones:
- Fold the dough over to cover the fillings.
- Press down the edges and front to seal.
- Use a fork to press down along the edges for a complete seal.
- Create steam vents:
- Cut 2-3 small slits in the top of each calzone.
- Prepare the topping:
- Melt some butter.
- Add garlic powder and Italian seasoning to the melted butter.
- Brush this mixture all over the top of the calzones.
- Bake:
- Place the calzones in the preheated oven.
- Bake for approximately 12 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Serving:
- Serve the calzones with your favorite dipping sauce.
