Cherry Almond Turnovers

Cherry Almond Turnovers

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 1 can of cherry pie filling (you can substitute with any flavor pie filling)

For the Almond Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons milk (add more milk to thin as needed)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the crescent roll can (usually around 375°F or 190°C).
  2. Prepare the Crescent Rolls:
    • Open the cans of crescent rolls and separate the dough into individual triangles.
    • Lay each triangle flat on a clean surface or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Add the Filling:
    • Spoon a small amount of cherry pie filling (about 1-2 tablespoons) near the large end of each crescent roll triangle. Be careful not to overfill to prevent leakage during baking.
  4. Roll the Turnovers:
    • Gently roll each crescent roll from the large end to the small end, covering the filling.
    • Tuck the edges under to help seal the filling inside.
  5. Bake the Turnovers:
    • Place the filled and rolled crescent rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet.
    • Bake according to the directions on the crescent roll can, usually 9-12 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown.
  6. Prepare the Almond Glaze:
    • While the turnovers are baking, prepare the almond glaze.
    • In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 1 teaspoon of almond extract and 1 1/2 teaspoons of milk.
    • Stir until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add more milk, a few drops at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
  7. Glaze the Turnovers:
    • Once the turnovers are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack.
    • Drizzle the almond glaze over the warm turnovers using a spoon or a piping bag.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes.
    • Serve the cherry almond turnovers warm or at room temperature and enjoy!

Tips:

  • For an extra touch, you can sprinkle some sliced almonds on top of the glaze before it sets.
  • If you prefer a less sweet glaze, reduce the powdered sugar to 3/4 cup and adjust the milk accordingly.
  • Experiment with different pie fillings like apple, blueberry, or raspberry for variety.
