delicious Big Mac tacos with homemade fries.
Big Mac Tacos
Ingredients
For the Tacos:
- 1 lb ground beef – Choose an 80/20 ground beef blend for juicy, flavorful tacos.
- Salt and pepper – About ½ teaspoon each, or season to taste.
- 8 small flour tortillas – Soft taco-sized works best.
- 4 slices of American cheese – Halved for even melting across each taco (or substitute with shredded cheese if preferred).
- 1 cup chopped romaine lettuce – For crunch, chop it finely.
- ¼ cup finely diced white or yellow onion – Diced small for even topping.
For the Big Mac Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise – This is the base of the sauce.
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard – Adds a bit of tang. You could also use yellow mustard if you prefer a milder taste.
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish – Adds a touch of sweetness and crunch.
- 1 teaspoon ketchup – Just a small amount for color and flavor.
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika – Adds a smoky, slightly sweet depth.
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder – For extra savoriness.
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper – For a bit of heat.
Instructions
1. Make the Sauce:
- In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup mayo, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons sweet relish, 1 teaspoon ketchup, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, ¼ teaspoon onion powder, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper.
- Stir until smooth and creamy. Taste, and adjust seasoning as desired.
- Set the sauce aside (refrigerate if not using immediately).
2. Prepare the Beef Patties:
- Season the 1 lb ground beef with ½ teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Divide the ground beef into 8 portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten each one into a thin patty that will cover the surface of one tortilla.
- Place each patty directly onto one side of a tortilla, pressing it down to adhere.
3. Cook the Tacos:
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a bit of oil if needed to prevent sticking.
- Place the tortilla, beef-side down, onto the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- Carefully flip the taco and cook the tortilla side for another 1-2 minutes until golden and slightly crispy.
4. Assemble:
- While the taco is still on the skillet, place half a slice of American cheese on the hot, cooked beef side to let it melt.
- Remove from the skillet and place on a serving plate.
- Top each taco with a handful of chopped romaine lettuce, diced onions, and a generous drizzle of the prepared sauce.
5. Serve:
- Serve immediately with a side of homemade French fries and extra sauce for dipping.
Homemade French Fries
Ingredients:
- 3-4 large russet potatoes – Washed, peeled (if desired), and cut into thin strips.
- Vegetable oil – Enough for frying (about 2 cups if using a deep skillet).
- Salt, to taste.
Instructions:
1. Prep the Potatoes:
- After cutting the potatoes into thin, even strips, place them in a bowl of cold water. Let soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch (this helps them crisp up during frying).
- Drain and pat dry thoroughly with a paper towel.
2. Heat the Oil:
- In a large, deep skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
3. Fry the Potatoes:
- Fry the potatoes in small batches for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn golden and crispy.
- Remove and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Immediately sprinkle with salt while the fries are hot.
