- Mozzarella Cheese: $3.98 (Used half the bag, approximately 2 cups)
- Frozen Meatballs: $5.86 (Used 20 meatballs, 5 per sandwich)
- Marinara Sauce: $1.25 (One jar from Dollar Tree)
- Total Cost: $14.57 (with plenty of leftovers)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Gather all ingredients and have them ready on the counter.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Heat the Sauce and Meatballs:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, pour the jar of marinara sauce.
- Add 20 frozen meatballs into the saucepan.
- Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
- Stir occasionally to ensure the meatballs are evenly coated with the sauce.
- Cook for about 20 minutes or until the meatballs are heated through and tender. You can cover the saucepan with a lid to speed up the heating process and prevent splattering.
- Prepare the Sub Bread:
- While the meatballs and sauce are heating, prepare the sub bread by cutting them lengthwise, making sure not to cut all the way through, so they can hold the meatballs and sauce better.
- Arrange the sub bread on a baking sheet.
- Assemble the Subs:
- Once the meatballs are tender and the sauce is hot, use a spoon to place 5 meatballs and some sauce into each sub bread.
- Sprinkle about 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese on top of each sandwich. Ensure the cheese is spread evenly to cover the meatballs and sauce.
- Bake the Subs:
- Place the baking sheet with the assembled subs in the preheated oven.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Keep an eye on the subs to make sure they don’t burn.
- Serve:
- Remove the subs from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
- Enjoy your easy and filling meatball subs!
- Any leftovers can be wrapped in aluminum foil and stored in the refrigerator. They can be reheated in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes or until heated through.
Notes
- Feel free to adjust the amount of cheese to your preference.
- You can add extra toppings like sliced onions, bell peppers, or even a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese for additional flavor.
- Leftover meatballs and sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
