Golden Graham Treats

Ingredients:

  • 7 cups of Golden Grahams cereal
  • 16 oz (1 package) of mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter
  • 2-3 Hershey bars (milk chocolate or your preferred type of Hershey bar)

Equipment:

  • Large saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula
  • 9×13 inch baking pan
  • Cooking spray or butter (for greasing the pan)
  • Knife (for cutting the chocolate bars)
  • Refrigerator (for cooling the treats)

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Begin by gathering all your ingredients and equipment.
    • Grease the 9×13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or a thin layer of butter to ensure the treats don’t stick.
  2. Melt the Butter and Marshmallows:
    • Place the large saucepan over medium heat.
    • Add the 1/2 cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter to the saucepan.
    • Once the butter starts to melt, add 6 cups of mini marshmallows.
    • Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula to prevent the mixture from burning.
    • Continue stirring until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted and combined into a smooth mixture.
  3. Combine with Cereal:
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat.
    • Quickly add the 7 cups of Golden Grahams cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture.
    • Stir thoroughly until all the cereal pieces are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Add Extra Marshmallows:
    • Add a handful (about 1 cup) of the remaining mini marshmallows to the mixture.
    • Gently stir to distribute the extra marshmallows throughout the cereal mixture. These will add a delightful, slightly chewy texture.
  5. Transfer to the Baking Pan:
    • Pour the mixture into the greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
    • Use the back of a spoon or your spatula to press the mixture evenly into the pan.
  6. Top with Marshmallows and Chocolate:
    • Sprinkle a few more mini marshmallows on top of the pressed mixture for added texture and visual appeal.
    • Take the Hershey bars and cut them into small pieces using a knife.
    • Evenly distribute the chocolate pieces over the top of the marshmallow cereal mixture.
  7. Cool and Set:
    • Place the baking pan in the refrigerator to cool for at least 30 minutes. This helps the treats to firm up and makes them easier to cut.
    • Once cooled, remove the pan from the refrigerator.
  8. Cut and Serve:
    • Use a sharp knife to cut the treats into bars of your desired size.
