Hearty Beef and Biscuit Casserole

Hearty Beef and Biscuit Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 pounds of ground beef
  • 2 cans of Manwich Sloppy Joe sauce (adjust quantity if cooking for a larger group)
  • 1 tube of refrigerated flaky biscuits (such as Pillsbury)
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • Olive oil (for greasing the pan)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (optional)
  • Optional: additional seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or dried herbs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
  • In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  1. Add Manwich Sauce:
  • Stir in the 2 cans of Manwich Sloppy Joe sauce with the cooked ground beef. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to combine. If you’re making a larger batch, you may need to adjust the amount of sauce accordingly.
  1. Prepare the Biscuit Topping:
  • Open the tube of refrigerated flaky biscuits. Separate each biscuit and cut them in half, creating two smaller pieces per biscuit.
  1. Assemble the Casserole:
  • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Arrange the biscuit pieces in a single layer on top of the beef mixture. Overlapping them slightly is fine.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven according to the biscuit package directions, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. This typically takes about 20-25 minutes, but check the package for the exact time.
  1. Add Cheese:
  • Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  • Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. This allows the layers to set and makes it easier to serve.

Tips:

  • For added flavor, consider seasoning the ground beef with salt, pepper, or other spices to taste.
  • If you want a more substantial meal, you can add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms to the beef mixture.

Enjoy your hearty and comforting beef and biscuit casserole!
