Hearty Beef and Biscuit Casserole
Ingredients:
- 2-3 pounds of ground beef
- 2 cans of Manwich Sloppy Joe sauce (adjust quantity if cooking for a larger group)
- 1 tube of refrigerated flaky biscuits (such as Pillsbury)
- 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- Olive oil (for greasing the pan)
- Salt and pepper to taste (optional)
- Optional: additional seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or dried herbs
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). - Cook the Ground Beef:
- In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Manwich Sauce:
- Stir in the 2 cans of Manwich Sloppy Joe sauce with the cooked ground beef. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to combine. If you’re making a larger batch, you may need to adjust the amount of sauce accordingly.
- Prepare the Biscuit Topping:
- Open the tube of refrigerated flaky biscuits. Separate each biscuit and cut them in half, creating two smaller pieces per biscuit.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish.
- Arrange the biscuit pieces in a single layer on top of the beef mixture. Overlapping them slightly is fine.
- Bake:
- Bake the casserole in the preheated oven according to the biscuit package directions, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. This typically takes about 20-25 minutes, but check the package for the exact time.
- Add Cheese:
- Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. This allows the layers to set and makes it easier to serve.
Tips:
- For added flavor, consider seasoning the ground beef with salt, pepper, or other spices to taste.
- If you want a more substantial meal, you can add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms to the beef mixture.
Enjoy your hearty and comforting beef and biscuit casserole!
