Homemade Taco Bell Crunchwrap
Serves: 4 | Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (Aldi’s Simply Nature or Never Any! ground beef works great)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (Casa Mamita brand from Aldi)
- 4 large flour tortillas (Aldi’s Pueblo Lindo brand)
- 1 cup queso cheese dip (Casa Mamita brand from Aldi)
- 4 hard taco shells (Casa Mamita brand)
- 1/2 cup sour cream (Friendly Farms brand from Aldi)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce (Aldi’s Little Salad Bar brand)
- 1 cup shredded Mexican-style cheese (Happy Farms brand from Aldi)
- 1/2 cup salsa (Casa Mamita brand from Aldi)
- Extra half tortilla for each Crunchwrap (optional, cut from an extra tortilla)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ground Beef:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain any excess fat, then stir in the taco seasoning packet along with the amount of water specified on the packet (usually 2/3 cup). Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the beef is well coated and the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Crunchwrap:
- Lay out a large flour tortilla on a clean surface.
- Spoon a generous amount of the seasoned ground beef into the center of the tortilla, spreading it out slightly but leaving room around the edges for folding.
- Drizzle or spread about 2 tablespoons of queso cheese dip over the beef.
- Take one hard taco shell and carefully break it in half. Place the halves on top of the queso-covered beef.
- Add a dollop (about 1 tablespoon) of sour cream on top of the hard shell halves.
- Sprinkle a handful of shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, and a spoonful of salsa on top of the sour cream.
- Seal the Crunchwrap:
- For a tighter seal, place half of an extra tortilla over the fillings, right in the center. This helps cover the open center when folding the Crunchwrap.
- Begin folding the edges of the large tortilla towards the center, working in a circular motion, making overlapping pleats to create a sealed package.
- Toast the Crunchwrap:
- Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Lightly spray with cooking spray or brush with a small amount of oil.
- Carefully place the folded Crunchwrap seam side down onto the hot pan.
- Cook for about 20-30 seconds on each side, or until the tortilla is golden brown and crispy. Press down gently with a spatula to help it hold its shape.
- Serve:
- Once both sides are toasted, remove the Crunchwrap from the pan. Let it cool slightly before cutting it in half.
- Serve hot, and enjoy your homemade Crunchwrap with your favorite dipping sauces or extra salsa on the side!
