Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup peanut butter (Ensure the peanut butter is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs!)
- 1/3 cup canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional) – while cinnamon is safe for dogs in small amounts, you can leave this out if you’re unsure.
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, canned pumpkin, and egg. If you’re using cinnamon, add it to the mixture as well.
- Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well-combined. It will be thick, like a cookie dough consistency.
- Prepare a piping bag or use a Ziploc bag as a substitute. To do this, spoon the mixture into the Ziploc bag and seal it. Then, use scissors to snip off one of the bottom corners of the bag to create a small opening (about 1/4-inch wide).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with non-stick spray.
- Pipe the dough onto the baking sheet, creating small bite-sized drops or fun shapes like swirls, dog bones, or circles.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the treats are set and lightly golden.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store these homemade dog treats in an airtight container for up to a week, or in the freezer for longer storage.
Notes:
- Always check the peanut butter label to make sure it does not contain xylitol, as this ingredient is highly toxic to dogs.
- These treats are a great source of protein and fiber for your furry friend, and the pumpkin is excellent for digestion!
Serving Size:
Depending on the size of the treats you pipe, this recipe will make about 20-25 small dog treats.
Your dog will love these homemade snacks, and you can feel good knowing they’re healthy and safe!
