Homemade Bagel Minis with Cream Cheese and Hot Honey Bacon

Homemade Bagel Minis with Cream Cheese and Hot Honey Bacon

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag Rhodes Yeast Dinner Rolls
  • Cream cheese (plain, or strawberry for a variation)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Everything But the Bagel seasoning (optional)
  • Chopped cooked hot honey bacon (optional, for extra flavor)

Equipment:

  • Cupcake pan
  • Pastry brush (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • Take the Rhodes Yeast Dinner Rolls out of the bag and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and let them rise until doubled in size, following the package instructions. This typically takes about 3-5 hours, depending on room temperature.
  2. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Prepare the Filling:
    • If using hot honey bacon, cook and chop the bacon into small pieces. Set aside.
  4. Shape the Bagel Minis:
    • Once the rolls have risen, take one roll at a time and make a small indentation in the center with your thumb or the back of a spoon.
    • Add about a tablespoon of cream cheese into the indentation. You can use a small spoon or a toddler’s spoon, as it fits perfectly.
    • If desired, sprinkle a few pieces of chopped hot honey bacon over the cream cheese.
  5. Seal the Bagel Minis:
    • Carefully pull the edges of the dough up and over the cream cheese filling. Pinch and twist the dough to seal the filling inside, ensuring the cream cheese doesn’t escape during baking.
    • Place each sealed roll into the cupcake pan, with the sealed side facing down.
  6. Prepare the Egg Wash:
    • Beat the egg in a small bowl to create an egg wash.
    • Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of each roll with the egg wash. This will give the bagel minis a nice golden color and shine when baked.
  7. Add the Seasoning:
    • If desired, sprinkle Everything But the Bagel seasoning over the tops of the bagel minis for extra flavor.
  8. Bake:
    • Place the cupcake pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 16 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the bagel minis from the oven and let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your homemade bagel minis with your favorite breakfast or as a quick snack!

Tips:

  • Variations: Try different flavors of cream cheese, such as garden vegetable or honey walnut, for a unique twist.
  • Storage: Store any leftover bagel minis in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat them in the oven or microwave before serving.

These homemade bagel minis are a delicious and cost-effective alternative to store-bought versions, and you can customize them with your favorite fillings and toppings!
