Ingredients:
- 1 tube of Pillsbury pizza crust
- 8 slices of deli ham
- 10 slices of Genoa salami
- 12 slices of sandwich pepperoni
- 8 slices of provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 2 teaspoons chopped parsley
- 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese
Directions:
- Prepare the Garlic Butter:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave.
- Once melted, stir in 2 minced garlic cloves, 2 teaspoons of chopped parsley, and 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese.
- Mix well and set aside for later.
- Prepare the Pizza Crust:
- Preheat your oven as per the instructions on your pizza dough packaging (typically around 375°F-400°F).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Unroll the Pillsbury pizza crust and stretch it to fit the size of your baking sheet, making it almost as large as the sheet itself.
- Layer the Meats and Cheese:
- Start layering your deli meats:
- First, add 8 slices of deli ham in a single layer on the dough.
- Next, layer 10 slices of Genoa salami over the ham.
- Follow with 12 slices of sandwich pepperoni.
- Finally, layer the cheese. If you’re using slices of provolone or mozzarella, arrange them evenly on top of the meats. You can also sprinkle shredded cheese if preferred.
- Start layering your deli meats:
- Roll the Stromboli:
- Carefully roll the pizza crust along its long edge, encasing all the fillings. Be sure to roll it tightly so the filling stays inside.
- Seal the seam by pinching the dough together at the edge to ensure no filling escapes during baking.
- Pinch the ends of the Stromboli as well and fold the excess dough underneath to create a nice, tidy package.
- Score and Bake:
- Using a serrated knife, score the top of the Stromboli a few times. This allows steam to escape and helps the dough cook evenly.
- Brush the garlic butter mixture generously over the top of the Stromboli.
- Place the Stromboli on the prepared baking sheet and bake according to the instructions on the pizza dough packaging (usually about 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown).
- Note: Unlike a traditional pizza, you do not need to par-bake the dough.
- Serve:
- Once baked, remove the Stromboli from the oven and allow it to cool for a couple of minutes.
- Slice the Stromboli into thick, hearty pieces, and serve hot.
- If desired, serve with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.
Tips & Variations:
- Add Red Sauce: While this recipe skips the traditional red sauce inside the Stromboli, you can absolutely add some inside with the cheese and meats for a more classic touch.
- Try Different Meats: Feel free to experiment with other deli meats like pepperoni, Italian sausage, or even cooked chicken for a personalized touch.
- Cheese Variations: While provolone and mozzarella are traditional, feel free to mix it up with a combination of cheddar, gouda, or even a bit of ricotta for a creamy twist.
Enjoy your homemade Italian Stromboli! It’s perfect for a quick dinner, snack, or party appetizer.
