Meatball Subs Recipe
This meatball subs recipe is a family favorite that feeds our family of six with leftovers to spare! It’s cheesy, hearty, and perfect for a quick and delicious meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 bag of frozen meatballs (about 24-32 meatballs)
- 1 jar of marinara or spaghetti sauce (24 oz)
- 12 hot dog rolls or sub rolls
- 6 string cheese sticks
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 bag of your favorite frozen fries
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Meatballs:
- Place the frozen meatballs in a large saucepan.
- Pour the marinara or spaghetti sauce over the meatballs.
- Heat over medium heat until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce is heated through, stirring occasionally. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, you can cook the meatballs according to the package instructions and then add them to the heated sauce.
- Prepare the Rolls:
- While the meatballs are cooking, prepare the rolls.
- Slice each string cheese stick in half lengthwise.
- Open each hot dog roll or sub roll and place one half of a string cheese stick at the bottom of each roll.
- Toast the Rolls:
- Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and toast the rolls for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese begins to melt and the rolls are slightly crispy.
- Assemble the Subs:
- Remove the rolls from the oven.
- Using a slotted spoon, place 3-4 meatballs into each roll, on top of the melted string cheese.
- Spoon a little extra sauce over the meatballs.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the meatballs.
- Melt the Cheese:
- Return the assembled subs to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the mozzarella cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Prepare the Fries:
- Cook your favorite frozen fries according to the package instructions. This can be done in the oven alongside the meatball subs or in an air fryer for a quicker option.
- Serve:
- Remove the meatball subs from the oven and let them cool for a minute.
- Serve the hot meatball subs with a side of crispy fries.
