Quick and Easy Kiddo-Friendly Homemade Fried Pickles
Ingredients:
- 1 jar of dill pickle slices (approximately 24 slices)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup plain bread crumbs
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Pickles:
- Drain the dill pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help the breading stick better.
- Make the Egg Wash:
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the 2 eggs and 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream until well combined.
- Prepare the Breading:
- In another shallow bowl, combine the plain bread crumbs and panko bread crumbs. Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
- Bread the Pickles:
- Dip each pickle slice into the egg wash, making sure it’s fully coated.
- Then, dredge the pickle slice in the bread crumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the breading adheres to the pickle.
- Place the breaded pickles on a plate or baking sheet until all slices are breaded.
- Fry the Pickles:
- In a large skillet, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the skillet about 1/4 inch deep. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully add the breaded pickles to the hot oil in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet.
- Fry the pickles for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the homemade fried pickles warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or spicy mayo.
Tips:
- Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
- Fry the pickles in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
- You can adjust the seasoning in the bread crumb mixture to suit your taste.
