Cut-Out Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 pound butter (softened)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and extracts
- Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, and optional almond extract until fully combined.
- Mix the dry ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Chill the dough
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight) to make it easier to roll out.
- Roll and cut out the cookies
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.
- Bake
- Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool completely before frosting.
Sugar Cookie Frosting
Ingredients
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons milk
- 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract or almond extract
- Assorted gel food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Mix the frosting
- In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. The frosting should be thick but spreadable.
- Adjust consistency if needed
- If the frosting is too thick, add a few more drops of milk. If it’s too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar.
- Add color
- Divide the frosting into separate bowls and mix in gel food coloring as desired for decorating.
- Frost and decorate
- Use piping bags or spread the frosting with a spatula or knife onto cooled cookies. You can also use the frosting to create detailed designs.
Glazing Option
If you’d like to glaze your cookies instead of frosting them:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
Mix until smooth and dip the cookies in the glaze or drizzle it on top. This glaze hardens for a glossy finish.
These decorated cookies are perfect for special occasions, holidays, or just for fun! You can customize the colors and designs to make them truly unique. Enjoy your cookie decorating adventures!
