DIY Bacon, Egg, and Cheese « McGriddles »
Ingredients
- Pancake mix (prepared as per box instructions)
- Syrup (to drizzle in pancakes)
- American cheese singles (or cheese of your choice)
- Bacon (or sausage patties)
- Eggs (about 3 for 6 sandwiches)
- Butter (for greasing mason jar lids)
Instructions
- Prep the mason jar lids
- Use the metal rings from mason jar lids to form the circular shape of your eggs and pancakes. Grease the inside of each lid with butter before adding the batter or eggs.
- Cook the pancakes
- Preheat a flat pan or griddle on low heat.
- Place the greased mason jar lids on the pan and pour in pancake batter—fill each lid not quite halfway to allow room for the pancakes to rise.
- Drizzle a small amount of syrup in the middle of the pancake batter, then cover it with a little more pancake mix. This ensures the syrup stays inside the pancake rather than solidifying on top.
- Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then gently lift the mason jar lid and flip the pancakes to cook the other side.
- Cook the eggs
- In a greased mason jar lid, pour in enough whisked egg to fill about half the lid. Cook until the egg is firm and easily releases from the lid, then remove the lid and flip the egg to cook the other side.
- Cook the bacon
- While the pancakes and eggs are cooking, fry up some crispy bacon (or sausage patties if you prefer).
- Assemble the McGriddles
- Once all the components are ready, assemble each sandwich by layering a pancake, a slice of American cheese, bacon, and an egg, followed by another pancake on top.
- Serve and enjoy
- Serve hot and enjoy your homemade McGriddles! These are perfect for brunch or even a fun Halloween breakfast.
It’s great that you found this recipe to be a budget-friendly alternative to McDonald’s, and the mason jar lid hack is super clever! Happy Halloween to you as well! 🎃😊
