Homemade Stromboli Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough
  • 2 tbsp garlic butter (or melted butter mixed with garlic powder)
  • 4 slices of Pepper Jack cheese
  • 15-20 slices pepperoni
  • 6-8 slices salami
  • 4-6 slices ham
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (a mix of dried basil, oregano, and thyme)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: marinara or pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the dough:
Open the can of pizza dough and carefully unroll it onto the prepared baking sheet. Stretch the dough gently to form a rectangle, approximately 12×8 inches. Make sure the dough is smooth and even.
  3. Spread the garlic butter:
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter (if using fresh garlic butter) or use pre-made garlic butter. Brush a thin layer over the entire surface of the dough, leaving about 1 ½ inches around the edges to allow for sealing later.
  4. Layer the fillings:
  • Start by placing the slices of Pepper Jack cheese evenly over the dough.
  • Add the pepperoni slices in an even layer on top of the cheese, followed by the salami slices, and then the ham.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
  1. Season the fillings:
Sprinkle the garlic powder and Italian seasoning evenly over the fillings.
  2. Roll the dough:
Beginning at the edge closest to you, carefully roll the dough tightly like a jelly roll or burrito. Keep the fillings tucked inside as you roll. Make sure to roll it gently but firmly. Once rolled, pinch the seams together and tuck the ends underneath the stromboli to seal the edges completely.
  3. Egg wash and slits:
In a small bowl, beat the egg with a splash of water to create an egg wash. Brush the entire top and sides of the stromboli with the egg wash. This will help it achieve a golden, shiny finish.
Using a sharp knife, cut 3-4 small slits on top of the dough to allow steam to escape while baking.
  4. Bake:
Place the stromboli in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and crispy. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through baking for even browning.
  5. Cool and serve:
Once the stromboli is golden and fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve with warm marinara or pizza sauce on the side for dipping, if desired.

Enjoy!
